Bring Your Brand to Life with the Playful Reading This Font

Reading This on Candle Labels: A Warm Welcome for Handmade Shops

As a web designer who also dabbles in handmade product design, I recently tested Reading This, a Display Font that promises a playfully hand made feel. The first place I used it was on candle labels for a small shop I’m helping out with. The moment I applied Reading This to a mockup of a rustic beeswax candle label, I knew this font had potential.

The rounded edges and slightly uneven strokes gave the label an organic charm that felt perfect for natural, artisanal products. It wasn’t too whimsical for a serious brand but still carried that handmade warmth that makes customers pause and take notice. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the secondary text, which helped keep the label readable without overpowering the main title.

For those looking to use Reading This on product packaging or labels, I recommend testing it at different sizes. On larger tags, it shines with its playful personality, but for smaller stickers or tiny label details, it might need some spacing adjustments to maintain clarity.

Reading This for Wedding Invitations and Elegant Branding

Next, I tried Reading This on a set of wedding invitations. I’ve designed quite a few over the years, and this font stood out as a fresh alternative to traditional script styles. It brought a sense of joy and creativity to the invitation titles while maintaining a level of elegance that fit the event’s tone.

I used it for the main heading—“You’re Invited”—and then switched to a simple serif font for the rest of the details. The contrast worked well, making the invitation feel both personal and professional. The font’s character didn’t clash with the formal elements of the design, which is something not all display fonts can pull off.

If you're designing for events like weddings, birthdays, or anniversaries, Reading This can be a great choice for titles, headers, and decorative wording. Just remember to keep the supporting text clear and legible so your guests can read all the important information without confusion.

Reading This in Digital Downloads and Printable Wall Art

Another area where Reading This really shined was in digital download designs. I created a set of printable wall art for a client, and using Reading This as the main typeface added a unique flair to the pieces. The font’s playful nature made each design feel more approachable and fun, which was exactly what the client wanted for their home decor line.

I also found it useful for creating digital templates, especially when paired with minimalist backgrounds. It didn’t get lost in the design, nor did it overshadow the imagery. For those working with digital assets, I recommend checking if the font includes alternate characters or ligatures, as they can enhance the visual appeal of your final product.

When it comes to commercial use, make sure to review the licensing terms carefully. If you're planning to sell printables, merchandise, or any other products featuring Reading This, confirming the font’s commercial use rights is essential to avoid any legal issues down the line.

Reading This for T-Shirts and Merchandise Design

Finally, I tested Reading This on t-shirt mockups. As a font that’s meant for display use, it looked fantastic as a main headline or slogan on shirts, tote bags, and mugs. Its bold yet friendly style made it ideal for branding messages that needed to stand out.

I experimented with different layouts, from centered single-line slogans to layered designs with supporting text. In each case, Reading This brought a sense of personality to the product. However, I noticed that it wasn’t the best choice for long paragraphs or dense blocks of text, which aligns with its intended purpose as a display font.

If you're a seller on platforms like Etsy or Shopify, using Reading This in your product listings or promotional materials could help create a cohesive brand identity. It's particularly effective when used consistently across packaging, social media graphics, and website content.
